As soon as I read that Shaq was dissing the Wii for making kids fat, I knew i was going to have a field day with it. Just a few seconds on Wikipedia to dig up a little dirt on the NBA star right?

Uh. No. The guy's a friggin SAINT. Allegedly, this 14-time NBA All-star is pretty busy in his spare time. Earned a degree, then another one.... Oh he's working on his doctorate right now. He's a reserve police officer. e puts $100 bills into the pockets of homeless people while they sleep. Oh and he works with heavy kids. So maybe he knows a little about what he's talking about.

But why target what is arguably the most physically demanding game console in history? I played Wii at a friends house one night while drinking and it not only got my heart rate up, but ended the drinking as well.

Not all games are bad either. Look at DDR. I can't HANDLE the excercise that this title can dish out. Word has it that a lot of gamers are using it as their own personal trainer. I know I've seen a few gravitationally challenged youth "Sweatin to the Oldies" at the mall.

Overall, (and this horse has been dead a while, but heck....) shouldn't a kid's parents be the ones setting reasonable limits and mandating that he or she get their heart rate up above 12 at least once a day? If I played too long, my dad would come in and hand me a piece of sports equipment and offer me the opportunity to write a report about it, or go play with it.

Man I wish we had Wikipedia in those days.

My dad would have Google'd the report to make sure I wasn't plagiarizing.

It's totally up to the parents. My nephew does nothing but play video games, he has no social skills what so ever and he won't do anything else unless he's forced. He is not fat but he is sub par when it comes to doing anything physical. Back to the parents. Its kind of like the ESRB ratings on games, if the parents ignore rating and buy Man Hunt 2 for them the system is worthless. As a parent you've got to know when you kid is at home he plugs into his console and never moves. I think the reason Shaq attacked the Wii is probably because he is a PS3 kind of guy. Atleast he seems like it to me.

I agree it's upto the parents with what they do to there kids. If your a kid and your parents give you food, your gonna eat it arn't you unless you don't want pudding. ;)

If you are gonna diss the Wii cos they have fat kids for the MeWii's then you should be shot. It's a subliminal message saying that you are fat which inturn will make you want to kick the video games ass for makin' you look fat :D

Shaq should be shot. He plays sport! He should be PROMOTING the Wii, not dissin' it!

Shaq? Supporting fitness??? Give. Me. A. Break. This is the same guy that shows up for training camp every year out of shape, to the point that he has to spend some time on the DL every year because his fat ass cant keep up with the NBA grind. This is the same guy that was repeatedly criticized by his own coach for his lack of playing shape, year in and year out.... Furthermore, this guy profits off of the games and the sedentary lifestyle that results from playing said game for hours on end....

Shaq, personal fitness rolemodel? More like Shaq, publicity seeking hypocrite.

I kinda recall that he had to lose a bunch of weight his rookie year or shortly after. If he shows up and has 6 pack abs in the show then I'll personally eat this post and my work PC! Unless you are in outstanding physical shape you really need to shut the hell up!

I'd take Shaq a lot more seriously if he stopped hawking Pepsi and Burgerking ;)

I'd take him more seriously if he did something more than just use his fat ass to clog up the paint these days.

He also promoted Nestle Crunch (a fine candy, if I may say so...).

Also - irony alert! - didn't Shaq have his own game (Shaq Fu?) on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis?
