View Full Version : A better look at Wii Motion Plus
heyfling 07-30-2008, 11:06 PM Here is a video that shows what movements the Wii Motion Plus can do. The guy in the video is a little boring.

I am glad the Wii controller is going to be that much more responsive, I just hope the accessory won't cost that much because I don't think it will be worth it until we see some developers put it to good use.
SWSilentkiller 07-30-2008, 11:15 PM hmmm it looks like it will work really well.
RAGNAROCK 07-31-2008, 01:06 AM frankly thats what I expect the wii to play when I first bought it,but like Heyfling said, until a good game comes, theres no rush on getting it
Awoll SGF 07-31-2008, 01:32 AM I'm certainly interested in it as long as it doesn't go over $20 bucks.
The Wii remotes are really excellent devices and anyone who doesn't see their impact on gaming is a fool. The biggest problem is that they aren't QUITE accurate enough to apply them to most games, let alone the hardcore gaming a lot of us do.
Still, if Nintendo can do what they do best and come up with something innovative, then they'll get my money...
Hell, they've already gotten $250 and bunch of accessories.
Flump 07-31-2008, 05:32 AM Does anyone know if you'll be able to use a nunchuck with the Motion Plus on the bottom?

I think I heard that you could.
I feel the successfulness of this will be in how many games use it. If developers are prepared to develop for the wii now, then if it gets more complicated will that number get less? Plus do you develop for the old control system or this new one that not everybody will have? so many questions...

Yeah, you can use the Nunchuck. Remember when Reggie was throttling the Jet Ski with the Wiimote + MotionPlus + Nunchuck?
Red Steel 2 has been confirmed to use the MotionPlus, so that's gonna be a good hardcore game to use it. I just hope the next Star Wars dev team has the brains to realize they need to use this.

You mean the dev team after Force Unleashed and the Clone Wars games right because I am pretty sure those 2 games aren't going to have the ability to use the Wii motion plus. Of course Nintendo is partially to blame if those games don't utilize the Wii motion plus controls because they didn't tell third party developers about the accessory before the E3 event.

Hence, "the next Star Wars dev team". :cool2: We don't know if third party developers knew about the Wii MotionPlus before E3...because Red Steel 2 will use it, and we don't know how long it's been in development. Apparently long enough for the AiLive LiveMotion 2 demo to be put together.
Jarrett 07-31-2008, 07:48 PM It might seem like a good deal at first, coming with ‘Wii Sports Resort’ and all.
But consider this; you need to buy three other MotionPlus peripherals for your other controllers so your buddies can play.
Does that mean buying ‘Resort’ four times?

Other games are going to be using the MotionPlus, so I'm guessing that it'll be sold seperately for $20-30. Same with the balance board. I mean, I don't really want buying Wii Fit to be a requirement to play certain other games.
Diortem 08-01-2008, 06:51 AM We will see what the pricing is, but my jaw would drop if this didnt sell seperately, or at the very least sell with future wiimotes.

sell integrated into future Wiimotes... this is just a hack to get the old wiimotes up to speed... or so i hope

Or if they didn't build this functionality into the next Nintendo console. I mean, come on! They're not going to abandon their new cash cow just after it's in the prime of giving milk.

How would they be abandoning the Wii by enhancing the controller? Did PS3 get abandoned when DualShock 3 started shipping with it instead of SIXAXIS? Or am I missing the point?

i think he was implying that they will either truly integrate this gen or next gen and that there is no way they would abandon the unique style of gameplay... but who am i to speak for others

I'm just saying that there's almost no way they're going to do something different than the Wii-mote style controller for their next console. It's making them too much money, and the full potential is still being realized. I'll bet you anything that they're reading every public response over at Nintendo, including ours. I hold out hope that they'll have corrected their mistakes the next time around.

That's what I was guessing, but how long until they start doing that?
Diortem 08-01-2008, 07:31 PM Yes, you did miss the point.
Oh... sorry... I thought you meant this system now being abandoned, which frankly didnt make any sense to concider either.
Yeah, I think you are right. This style is here to stay... and I think you will find the others implamenting it, too for the next time.... all three refining it according to their needs.
Ploogle 08-01-2008, 08:25 PM That's what I was guessing, but how long until they start doing that?
Well, Wii Sports Resort comes out in Spring 09, and we have no clue when Red Steel 2 will be released, but I'd say that the MotionPlus will be sold seperately around the same time that RS2 comes out.

Sounds good!
If they listen the criticism and fix the flaws from the first game it could be a real hit!
heyfling 08-04-2008, 01:38 PM Here is a quote from Satoru Iwata talking about the price of the Wii Motion Plus.(taken from a Kotaku article)
There will be games that will be enhanced by the Wii Motion Plus as well as games that can only be played with it. Users will need four if they have four controllers, but we're going to try to offer it for as little as possible. We haven't announced the price yet, but the cost of making the Wii Motion Plus is not that much, so I think we can make it very affordable.
I am hoping that this means it will only cost $15-$20.

$15-20 sounds about right for a *cheap* Nintendo peripheral. That's about what the GBA Gamecube link was.
Hungry Luma 08-21-2008, 12:34 PM Wow. Wii Motion Plus will make a lot of games we orginally though where impossible become possible. If it comes at an ok price WMP will be a must buy for me.
