Single Player:

I like The Darkness, it's fun, and the whole, Demon Arm, Snake, Black hole, and all those other nifty techniques, never really get old using, basically you rarely need to use your guns, so you are always stocked on ammo.. It was a pretty damn short game though, a pretty good storyline, and how everyone !!SPOILER!!is always trying to manipulate you to basically stay with the darkness and let him take you over, or fight the darkness. Now, you HAVE to let the darkness take you over, which is lame, I would have much liked to make my own decision.!!SPOILER END!! Those of you that have played it know what I mean.!!SPOILER!! And yeh, the darkness is a, being/creature thing. !!SPOILER END!!

All in all, I give it a 8/10
What I really liked about it was the action combined with the music. It went perfectly, and made you feel like you were kickin so much ass.You feel really in tuned to intense action when you play, and you are versing like 20+ people on your own. About a moderate use of your darklings, and dark power uses to get you place you need to be. Example- Big wall in your way with a gate, use your creeping snake thing to crawl up the wall and hit the gate switch.

I liked how you could use your snake arm thing to crawl on, evreything, I mean everything, that was good, as it is better then having it only crawl on the ground.

I will edit this post for a multiplayer rating, I am gonna play later today.

Great first post, but could you not put spoilers in your review please? Thanks.

The commericals made the game kinda look like a cheesy console shooter.

Oh Dang, My bad, I will put a spoiler warning, or, is there anything to cover up spoilers, then you roll mouse over, and it show them?

No, there isn't anything like that but you can put SPOILER WARNING in big letters and make the spoiler text white so you have to highlight it to read it...

I just finished it yesterday. Stuff that annoyed me:

I was expecting more of a choice in the way the game ends (seems there's only one possible conclusion despite a couple of opportunities for the plot to branch off in different directions). The Black Hole power completely unbalanced the game from then on out. And the Lightkiller Darkling - wtf? He didn't seem to do anything of note.

Multiplayer is just HORRIBLE. Lag, lag, lag. I tried it out last night and it was completely unplayable. I hope they patch the netcode or do SOMETHING, because I'm not touching it with my penis (ie. a ten foot pole) until they do.

..that said, WOW. I was hooked by the awesome graphics, incredible voice acting (Kirk Acevedo did a fantastic job voicing Jackie and - holy crap - Mike Patton stole the show with his astounding performance), the great shooting mechanics and the double-crossing and whatnot.

SPOILER: Jenny's murder genuinely made me angry! The game really made her and Jackie's relationship something more than the usual superfluous McGuffin crap and when she died I kept hoping that she'd be coming back. When I finally got Paulie on his own, I put a bullet in his head without hesitation. Woo. When I heard her voice - "Don't fight!" - when fighting The Darkness in the castle, I almost cheered.

I played through the game on Normal in two (fairly long) nights. I'm going back to Escape from Butcher Bay next - I started that one a while ago and never finished it. Roll on the next Starbreeze game!

That's bad for your health. Playing a game without Achievements.
I might put 100% Achievement whore in my sig now...
Or just my gamercard. :P

They have something like achievements, it obviously doesn't give you a gamerscore or anything (Of course I am talking about the ps3 right now) but they have a little set-up deal to try to get you to get all the 'rewrads' or whatever.

But yah, the multiplayer is laggier then hell.

Sounds like Prey in the online aspect. I actually heard a lot of people relating this game to Prey, anybody think that?

Anywho, this game doesn't sound like the greatest thing right now. What with Halo 3, GH2, Half-Life 2, Mass Effect, Shadowrun, etc...
I doubt I will be picking this one up any time soon...

My two cents: Okay game. the minions were a pain to use. the only really useful power was the tentacle arm. the darkness guns sucked. and all the walking around and riding the subway was sooooo boring. without all the filler, this is like a four hour game. On the good side were the great graphics and a really stand out story. This game was the first game in quite some time that had a story that actually compelled me to finish it.

Worth a rental.
