You really can't compare the two, one focuses on the historical side of life while the other focuses on the "what if" side. They are both great games that bring a lot to the table, in the end its up to you, do you want a historical RTS or a "What if" RTS.

Well, they're not very comparable, mainly because one is a turn-based strategy game while the other is real-time strategy. I suppose I'd choose Civ 4 if I had to make a choice, seeing as it's a game that has hooked me in and is very deep, but then again, Age of Empires 3 is better if you just want to have a quick bit of instant-satisfaction fun.

True that you can't compare them, but it's more because Civ isn't an RTS. It's turn-based, and a 4X game.

Civ IV. Both have massive replay value, but Civ is just that bit better IMO

Never played Civ 4 but I love AoE3 and my computer actually runs it for once.

Civ 4. Much more depth and ways to play, though I'd admit it does come at the cost of being a bit intimidating for the new player.

Civ 4, theres just that much more you can do with it. But if you do play the huge maps, get ready for endless hours of gameplay

They aren't similar, really. Civ 4 is turn based. (wait, I have Civ. 3, but I think they are similar)

AoE3 is RTS, and amazing. Online play is fun too, you make your own home cities and such.
