Masanao Maeda, a corporate director at Sega's software division, spoke at TGS on 9/21/07 regarding their new game "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games." During his speech he predicted that the title would sell over 4 million copies, although he did not give a time frame for that estimate.

Four million? For a game with Sonic the Hegehog? Well, I guess that they'll probably have to sell four million just to break even after paying for the Mario and Olympic licenses.

maybe people will buy it because of mario rather than sonic. Still this game makes no sense sonic can outrun anybody, however he can't swim so mario wins that as a matter of fact mario can beat sonic at everything except running

I guess this game would be another reason for me to get the Wii, and its about time that Sonic was in a game with Mario.....now if only he was in Smash Bros.

I'm putting $10 down that this game will not score higher then an 8. Seriously, I think it'll suck big time.

As cool of an idea of joining the two IPs is:

The Mario games have consistently been great platformers, and lately they seem to be keeping that steady.

The Sonic games have been great in the past (genesis), yet in recent years have been downright horrible (shadow).

Mathematically speaking, the game is going to be really below average. The recent Mario games haven't been that good as to save them from the recent Sonics.

Also, how is the return of Neo-Geo not a huge announcement that we're hearing more about? The n'th time's the charm, right? (I have no idea how many Neo-Geo's there are)

Of course it was a joke.

But ignoring the fact that I think it may have even bankrupted the company, how awesome would it be for Neo-Geo to make a triumphant return. Hell, it'd even be damn dramatic with the current trifecta fighting all the time.

Every time I think about this game, I think back to the PowerPad with Track & Field. I would buy this game in a heart beat if it used a PowerPad.:)
