During a recent interview talking about his new game Jericho, Clive Barker went after movie critic Roger Ebert. The interviewer told Barker about Ebert's recent quote that video games cannot be art. This set the movie director, turned game maker, into a frenzy. Barker stated that Ebert was a "pompous, arrogant old man," and then stormed away from the interview.

Barker was not heard from again until a few days later when he decided to crash the taping of Ebert's show. Barker appeared while the show was taping a segment on High School Musical 2. Richard Roeper was is mid sentence reviewing High School Musical 2, and about to give it a "thumbs up," when Barker came out of nowhere wielding a steel chair and smashed Roeper in the back, incapacitating Roeper.

Ebert then ran away fearing for his life and Barker gave chase. Once backstage, Barker hurled the chair knocking Ebert to the ground. In seconds he had the chair again and repeatedly nailed Ebert on the head and back.

Barker stood over Ebert shouting, "games can be art!" As Barker turned and walked away from Ebert, Ebert sat straight up and performed a Karate style "sweep kick," knocking Barker to the floor. With a quick flip, Ebert was once again on his feet and went after Barker with an elbow to the sternum! The parties were quickly separated by the TV show's staff, but both could be heard yelling at each other from either side of the set.

Vince McMahon then appeared out of nowhere and told the guys that they could settle their score this weekend Live from Las Vegas at the Sarcasticgamer Pay-Per-View! Barker then shouted, "You'll see this weekend at the pay-per-view! After I beat your ass in the ring, you'll have to admit that games can be art!"

Remember, the only way to catch the battle extravaganza of Barker versus Ebert, with ringside manager Richard Roeper, is by sending Sarcsticgamer.com 39.95 for the Pay-Per-View. Check with your local cable company listings for further details!

In that regard, I think the real question is....

Yeah, I tried coming up with a really funny answer to your question, but I'm still recovering all the "funny power" I used to post my "tumble weed blows across road/gif." So I just went with the simple response, hahahah.

Also, flOw is another game that can be considered art. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

The Legend of Zelda games can also be art, Wind waker being a good example of that. Seriously though How can videogames not be art? I think Ebert said they weren't art because you interact with things in the game or something like that.

Wow, that makes a whole lot of sense.

I know it really doesn't make much sense but he said it not me.

I know it really doesn't make much sense but he said it not me.

Yeah, I know.

Definition of "art": The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colours, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty.

Nowhere in there does it say that, in order to be art, it cannot be interacted with. So, where he gets that idea from, I have no idea.

so therefore due to that definition videogames are cleary art. it's just that simple. How Ebert can argue that they are not, I really don't know. Also here is the definition of art I found in the dictionary: The use of skill and imagination in the prduction of things of beauty. Last time I checked videogames fall under that category.

Yeah, but under that definition, there are a whole lot more things that can be considered art which simply aren't in our society. Though I do agree that videogames can most definitely be art. I hope Barker beats the crap out of Ebert on PPV for all of us with $40 in our spare change to watch.

Should that really matter though? If the shoe fits....
