Now I don't know if this happens every year... but for too many years, which has ultimately given the game this title, whoever stars on the front cover will get injured in one way of another the year the game is out. Now Brett Favre was thought to break this curse seeing as he was going to be retired... But he changed his mind... Now the question I have to all of you.

Do you think that the madden curse will continue and go after Favre even though he is sporting a different jersey than the one shown on the cover?

Or... and to make things interesting... do you think it will especially hold true since he betrayed his true team

The traitor better have something happen to him.

Maybe he will win another Super Bowl.

He is getting too old of course he will get injured, then he will retire because of his injury.

how about, he'll get hurt, because he got hurt last year and he's old?

Madden Curse

Prior to 1999, every annual installment of the Madden NFL series primarily featured John Madden on its cover.[6] In 1999, Electronic Arts selected Garrison Hearst to appear on the cover, and has since featured one of the league’s top players on every annual installment.[7] Since then, certain players have experienced a decline in performance, usually due to an injury. For example, quarterback Michael Vick appeared on the cover of Madden 2004, and suffered a leg injury that sidelined him for most of the 2004 season.[7] In a similar example, running back Shaun Alexander, then the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, was featured on the cover of Madden NFL 2007, and sustained a foot injury that caused him to miss six starts.[8] As a result, Alexander’s rushing statistics were substantially less than those from the previous season.[8]

When asked about the “Madden Curse”, Chris Erb, the EA Sports director of marketing, commented, “I don't know that we believe in the curse. The players don't believe in the curse”[9] Greg Pearson, a writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, commented that string of injuries that Madden cover athletes experience can be attributed to physical-nature of football.[9] Shaun Alexander himself has claimed, “Do you want to be hurt and on the cover, or just hurt."[9] When Vince Young appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to officially announce that he would appear on the cover of Madden NFL 2008, he derided allegations of becoming the curse’s next victim, and stated, “I done prayed about it and we're gonna go home and try to get to the playoffs and try to get to the Super Bowl. We'll see what happens.”[10] Prior to the announcement, various sources reported that LaDainian Tomlinson, then the league's reigning MVP, was originally selected to appear on the cover of the game.[11] Some of Tomlinson's fans, who believed in the Madden Curse, were strongly opposed to EA Sports' initial decision, so much that a fan created saveltfrommadden.com to voice their disdain.[12] Tomlinson eventually declined the offer, but stated it was solely due to contract negotiations.[12] Will Bret Farve be next!!!!! (Drew)

Personally, if buying the game will cause Farve to injure himself... I would buy three copies!

May I ask why you hate Farve? I am a Bears fan, and I still like him.

Because he's a traitor to the packers.

I apologize for my lack of "seachatude".

Well its not that I don't think that he is a good player, I mean the guy has shattered more records than unfinished martini times... But lately he has been acting extremely selfish.

The shame is that past, Favre was the pure guy, the great teammate who played for the love of the game, the Dave of football if you will. Now he shows up in training camp having spent the last few days contemplating how much it would have cost the Packers to keep him retired.

Green Bay didn't meet his price, but granted that doesn't mean he didn't have one...

And for me, that's the real price of this flip flopping act. He's gone from being an icon to just another superstar, another guy who, despite the most earnest proclamations, puts himself above the team.

How do you know that they didn't meet his price? Maybe he just ignored the money because he wanted to play the game.

Arghh Ala Douche! Your always rushing in here with your logic! Obviously he's going to get hurt because of the curse. Being old has nothing to do with it.

I think the curse will be on the Green Bay Packers, and NOT Brett Favre. Kinda like the great Bambino curse.

If John Madden was on the cover before why didn't the 20th anniversary edition have him on it?

Well anyway I think major nelson revealed on one of his podcasts that the negotiations for Brett Farve to be on the cover were going on before he retired, so maybe the curse was he retired?

The Spoon theroy: The curse is now passed on to Aaron Rodgers.

Brett knew as soon as the cover came out that he would have to change teams to get rid of the Hex. That's why he decided to come back.

It's kinda had an affect lol something which was in the media recently, EA mis-spelt the cover star's name wrongly... they spelt it "Brett Farve instead of Favre

I was just going to say that. The Curse, as it is, really only affects the club. For the player, oh well, they're getting paid for being on the team, if they get hurt, thesy still have the money. But, for the club, they're losing a weapon to get to the Big Dance, which makes it all the harder to get there.

This year' Curse has already affected the Green Bay Packers. They've been in the midst of a controversy with the player that is on the cover, and they've also lost possibly their most valuable weapon.

There is no Madden curse. All of the injuries occur because football is an extremely brutal sport.
