View Full Version : Does anyone else's Xbox Guide run slow?
CaseyCor 08-14-2008, 12:40 AM First thread here, very cool forum! I've been listening to the podcasts for about a month now, but I just didn't have the time to join the forums. I'm very glad to be here!
Now, on to the point of my post. Does anyone's guide run slow/freeze up? For example, I'm browsing my friends list (both in-game and at the dashboard), and while I'm scrolling down, it freezes up for 4-15 seconds. This happens in every menu of the Guide. Messages, Music, Friends, MSN chat. I'm on my 2nd box now, and the first one did it as well. Is this a big complaint that has somehow gone over my head, or is this a rare occurrence?
AlmightyEmperor 08-14-2008, 12:52 AM This happens to me as well. I think its because you go to the menu too fast and it slows down a little bit.

That was one of my first thoughts, but I dismissed it. Now that you bring it back up, I think it very well may be a good concept.
StaplerPirate 08-14-2008, 02:34 AM They are making this faster in the next update
Vinc3nt 08-14-2008, 05:48 AM yea w8 till about october and you should be able to press that flashing button you love so much with speedier results
Fearless987 08-14-2008, 07:03 AM I've never noticed that:huh:!
DaDillsta 08-14-2008, 08:16 AM Yeah when like a game first starts loading or if a game is loading like Oblivion my guide pops out really slow and moves kinda bad.
codespace 08-14-2008, 08:39 AM This frustrates me to no end. Why is it my 360 can render literally thousands of zombies simultaneously, but it can't figure out how to make my user interface move quickly?
killer bonnar 08-14-2008, 09:45 AM Yeah it happens to me to but it's only happened once or twice.

That'll be because the guide is restricted to a tiny amount of the xboxs power as to not effect game play. There can be a varienty of reasons that the guide may be running slow but one of the most common is because it is retrieving data from the live service, such as you buddies status, gamer pic, profile etc. Again, this will only use a minuscule amount of the xboxs bandwidth as to not effect online gaming.

Then why is it so slow when I'm not playing an online game? Keeping the resource-consumption low for online gaming, but speed it up when I don't need that resource protected.
Masselli18 08-14-2008, 01:33 PM yeah but it only happens sometimes
placenta 08-14-2008, 01:51 PM yea i have this happen as well most notably in the arcade blade section where there's also the achievment tab. when going though the overall achievements it takes a a few seconds to load and reload them moving up and down.
CaseyCor 08-14-2008, 02:02 PM I just can't stand this slow down shit! I recieve a MSN message during an online game, and get the opportunity to check it (let's say I die, or I'm hiding, ect..), and it takes FOREVER to check the damn message. Meanwhile, the game is still going on in the background. Really sucks.
IceKatana X 08-14-2008, 07:21 PM Yeah, mine is pretty slow sometimes though not often. One problem I get is that my friends list doesn't always load when I log in.
zaphoduk 08-15-2008, 05:41 AM I've had several issues where me and my partner both have accounts on the 360. I will sign out so she can sign in and play a game. Then when she's finished and i want to play, she will sign out and it will say "No Profiles Found". I have to switch the machine off and back on again for it to detect any of the profiles even tho it had just loaded not 5 mins ago.

I have had that as well. I'm on the phone with one of my friends and he would say" join my game" or something. But when i looked at my list no one was on so i couldn't. =[
StaplerPirate 08-15-2008, 07:50 AM Listen to the major nelson podcast and he says that they are makeing it alot faster
viatrophy 08-15-2008, 09:51 AM Mine just likes to stop working completely occasionally
FatedEinherjar 08-16-2008, 07:11 PM It's because if the console is connected to the internet it caches all the needed information for the current blade. When you switch blades it then has to cache that blade. normally you wouldn't notice something like this, but the 360 has very little resources available to the blades in order to make sure that games run perfectly. Someone said "why not give it more resources when I'm not running a game?" I believe that is what they have done for this next release, plus from what I've seen it looks like the new interface is slightly less resource intensive as the current one so it should automatically run a little quicker.
kaan the cool 08-17-2008, 03:13 AM There's also the fact that if you have a very bad connection it can take a long time to connect. Up in my bedroom(3 floors higher than the wireless it takes the x media bar 2 mins to load and the dashboard 5!
NuclearNinja 08-17-2008, 08:19 PM Now that you mention it mine does.
The McMurder 08-18-2008, 01:44 AM it does when i'm processing intensively but not normally and if it does it's only slightly
