View Full Version : ridiculous lightsaber grip!!!
Slightlysourmilk 08-27-2008, 12:08 PM hello ppl ive been recently playing the new force unleashed demo for ps3 and does anybody know if you can change the grip or something coz for some reason it really anoys me!!!
plus in the demo theres lots of cool combos and stuff but it does get a little repetative does anyone know if theres lots more different cool lightsaber moves i could do in the full game ????
Shaha44 08-27-2008, 12:12 PM I don't think you can change the grip for your light saber. I am not 100% positive, but if I remember right, I think I read somewhere that the dude in Force Unleashed was the first to "wear" his light saber that way...
mlazear 08-27-2008, 12:29 PM I heard in an interview that you will NOT be able to change the grip.
PopTrogdor 08-27-2008, 12:41 PM i like that type of grip. I also like doing the combos, and adding lightning to the mix once in a while

Chekt 08-27-2008, 01:11 PM The grip looks cool, but it's actually really, really stupid. You don't have as much reach with your lightsaber and if you're not careful you could take your arm off. The only reason anyone would use it is because it makes you look like a badass, but that's only until you get into a battle with someone else using the regular grip who has the same amount of skill as you die within the first few seconds.

:wink2: Well, I guess it's just too bad that this is a game and not real life.

Holding it the "proper" way, you're equally likely to take your own head off if you're not careful with your fictitious laser sword.
chaingunpope 08-27-2008, 01:50 PM I haven't even gotten the demo yet...stupid repair service...

that was some deep and expansive commentary you gave there

Smart guy first learn to type then take a look at the name of the game. The FORCE Unleashed! Not much light saber action!

And yet somehow, I managed to convey my feelings on the matter.

How can you prove that? Lightsabers aren't real.
Chekt 08-28-2008, 11:18 AM If you just think about it, it's just harder. Take a plastic lightsaber and hold it like that, and then have someone else hold another plastic lightsaber the normal way. They have a clear advantage.

Given that I spar with bokken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokken) on a fairly regular basis, and have been known to flip my grip back and forth depending on my mood, I'd have to say that you probably don't know what you're talking about.
Do you fence?

Please, for gods sake, tell me that you make the lightsaber sounds whilst sparring.

Not so much, sorry.
Kiljoy 08-28-2008, 11:32 PM I fence.
Vertrucio 08-29-2008, 05:15 AM Not only is this just a game, it's a fictional character with a fictional scifi weapon in a fictional universe. Not to mention this fictional character has super powers granting him enhanced strength, senses, and more. Also the fictional lightsaber has almost no weight beyond the handle, meaning any balance issues are negated. I think he can hold his lightsaber any way he wants, especially if it makes him look bad ass in the game.
Now, in real life, I suspect such a grip on a long bladed weapon would be impractical unless all of their training was directed for that grip. As always, there's cases where knowing how to use that type of grip on certain weapons would confer some advantages, but that would be outweighed by the overall advantages of a normal grip.
The closest grip seems to be that of a police night stick (I forget what the original name is), and yes, there is a Jedi designed with night-stick style lightsabers.

You're thinking of a Tonfa (http://indianama.com/osCommerce/images/tonfa1.jpg), and Maris Brood (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Maris_Brood) is the one in TFU that wields them.
AlmightyEmperor 08-31-2008, 09:04 AM What does it look like?

Let me just get up and head over to Google; I understand that it's a bit of a stretch for you to make it that far.

Woo, that was hard. I'm going to go take a nap now.

Christ almighty get over yourself, this is the internet you don't have to write in perfect grammar as long as you get your message across it's fine. Being nice will get you further than grammatical correctness on the internet.
The grip's alright, nothing to get really fussed over just a grip you'll spend more time pushing things than slashing anyway.

slik1000 09-01-2008, 03:18 AM I would have thought that someone with the force would know where his Light Sabre was at all times. This guy can move a mother-loving Star Destroyer with his mind, so you really think that he is going to cut off his leg with it. The only thing that annoys me about the Light Sabre is that he almost never puts it away! I like the sound of "Bvvvvvrsh"/"bsssswp". Not enough of that in the game.
Xenuftw 09-01-2008, 06:04 AM Honestly if i had a lightsaber i'd never put it away

Just turn it into a super awesome night light!

I could imagine coming home one night and trying to turn it off and cutting off your fingers.
