I recently found out that there was a game that was released for the Super NES called Super Mario RPG: Legend of the seven stars. Anyways apparently it was only made for a short period of time and then they stopped making it. So I looked it up on ebay expecting it to be a cheap game that I could check out and play a little bit, and I find that nearly all of them are going off for forty to fifty bucks or more. So it must be pretty rare. I also found that they had released or was planning to release it for european wii owners over the wii store. I'm just wondering if anyone has even heard of it and even better if you've played it tell me what you thought about it.

Yea, you are going to have to pay a pretty penny for Super Mario RPG on eBay. Might want to wait til it comes to the NA Virtual Console. Though, we don't really know when that will be.

Get it when it hits VC. That game was truly amazing.

Dude, you got that right. I had this friend that was really messed up when I was a kid. I mean, really messed up. When this game came out, though, I had no problem justifying going over to his house on almost a daily basis just to kick around in the 3D mushroom kingdom for an hour or two.

It may not stand the test of time for a gamer picking it up for the first time, but for me, the nostalgia will be too much for me not to pick it up when it debuts on the VC.

I looked up some footage of it on Youtube...and I'm staying clear away from it. It looks incredibly boring. Is there anything but enemy fights, or do you actually get to DO something? I saw Mario kicking red shells at enemies, and everyone else doing the same animations for attack over and over again. Is the fighting really that non-varied?

I gotta agree with Ploogle. It doesn't look half as great as I've heard it to be. I'm not really a fan of turn-based RPGs, although I loved 'Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga', which SM: RPG reminds me of a lot. It looks like you use the same attack over and over again. Doesn't look to fun to me... Why is it so popular?

Well if you dont like turn based RPGs (and Ploogle, you just described them ALL), the you clearly wont like this either.

I miss Super Mario RPG. That game sucked many hours out of my life. The "Mario and Luigi" games were awesome too.

I love turn-based RPGs, but not when there's only one option per character and not even a hint of strategy. I see no point in excecuting the same attack over and over and over again. RPGs are good. This isn't.

I'm playing through this game on my SNES emu on my Wii right now. What a fun game! (yes, I have an original cartridge). I'm using this game as a intro to Chrono Trigger and Earthbound over the next month.

Earthbound is my favorite RPG, by far. I'd LOVE to see Mother I and III released in the US.

The mario rpg series never really worked for me. I never played the SNES game, but I did play both Mario & Luigi games and the Thousand Year Door for the gamecube. The Thousand Year Door was actual quite good, and although the battles got repetitive very quickly, the story was fine and the characters were interesting. The out-of-battle play was fun with the paper aspect used on a fantastic level and the Dialogue was brilliant.

Not such can be said about the Mario and Luigi series, which paled in comparison. The characters were Mario... and Luigi, which made them very boring to play as. But the NPC's were compelling. The battles were extremely dull and too frequent. The out-of-battle was just running around looking for the next battle. All in all it was just awful. A turn-based rpg has to have sublime action in and especially out of battle. Unfortunately, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Mario & Luigi Partners in Time had neither.

Let me rephrase... you just described all OLD SCHOOL CONSOLE RPGS.

you can judge a game by today's standards and think the game is pretty mediocre but i remember playing this game at the height of 2D rpgs and turn-based was pretty much all you got and if not the most popular kind of rpg. this game was great graphically and the story fit well into it's own universe.

when i play a game on virtual console i've never played before, i find it hard to get into unless it strikes the right chord, in this case, i played Super Mario RPG to death so I know i'm going to love it.

just like with the release of Chrono Trigger DS, you might not find anything you like about it unless you played the game before or have been craving to play it. older generation games don't hold up as well with people used to playing newer generation games.

It is a pretty good RPG, if you played and liked any of the Paper Mario games, I would suggest getting it on the Virtual Console.

The SNES mario rpg, made by Nintendo AND Square is an awesome game!!! Still one of my favorite RPGs, but I would wait till the VC game comes out, it's a shame to spend a premium for something that will eventually be $8...

You know how alot of times rpg's have alot of different types of armours (like champions or too human). Well a mario rpg would have a ton of different hats for mario or new sets of overalls
