I am actually considering it....sort of. My 360 is a launch core unit. It has never had any real hardware problems strangely enough. It scratches disks sometimes, but that is about it. I am not sure if I have some fluke unit that was made well, or if it is on the verge of breaking. I don't know if I would be able to sell my old 360 though.
If I did do it, then I would probably just use the giftcard to buy things for my PS3.
@Chubbaluphigous: Considering that $100 is what it will cost to get your 360 repaired I'd say it's worth it. For the cost of the repair you get a new system, a full warranty, an HDMI port, and a Jasper chipset.
At the very least you should be able to sell your old one at Gamestop. I don't think they check much beyond turning the thing on judging by the number of people who claim to have bought banned consoles from there.

Anyone know what the trade-in value is for a used 360 without hard drive at Gamestop?
Heck yeah two turkeys one 360(sounds like a HDUD Christmas song)
We'll get right on that.
Update: I recommend buying one today and doing a return/rebuy tomorrow, to ensure that they don't sell out. I will be doing this at two walmarts in my area, and using the giftcard from one to pay for the next. Slicker than snot!
Update:
My return/rebuy scheme failed at one local Walmart, they said they were only going to sell today's stock with the Gift Card. There were still some there, so I got one, will try to return/rebuy at another Walmart later today.
