I'm a good couple of hours into the game, and I have yet to be disappointed. The story, however cliche it might be, is well-told and engaging. I think it says something about the quality of the storytelling when it can use alot of the well-worn RPG plot devices and elements in a way that makes you want to pay attention. I rarely, if ever, find myself wanting to skip dialogue.
As for the archery, I don't use it too much. I have almost always used Ranger-type characters in game series such as Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights, but I am going with a sword and shield-bashing warrior this time.

yeah, I definitely have not felt that the story is lame in any way shape or form. Provided, this game is rather difficult, so much so that in the patch notes(yes they already patched it) one of the things listed was: "Made the Easy difficulty easier." So, I may not have gotten to the cliche parts of the game, but I have put more than 9 hours into it, with the first four being in the "opening."
Well I also have Borderlands, and I am going to finish that up before I go jumping into Dragon Age. Then L4D2 is coming out too, so I basically have no time to play all of these games! Its a good problem to have though.
